If 12x - 4y = 12, 4y - 11z = 17, and 11z - 4x = 11, what is the value of x?
A. -8
B. 2

D. 8
E. 24
Adding the three equations gives
12x - 4x = 12 + 17 + 11.
So, 8x = 40 or x = 5.
