If 2b = -3, what is the value of 1 -4b?
A. -7
B. -5
C. 5
D. 6
E. 7
Multiplying both sides of the given equation, 2b = -3, by -2 gives
-4b = -2(2b) = -2(-3) = 6
Since -4b = 6, then 1 - 4b = 1 + 6 = 7.
