In animals, which occurs during the synthesis of larger, more complex organic molecules from smaller organic molecules?
A. Water is released.
B. Oxygen is released.
C. Nitrogen is absorbed.
D. Phosphorus is absorbed.
E. Phosphorus is released.
Dehydration synthesis is the process of building up molecules by removing water. A hydroxyl molecule (-OH) is broken off one organic molecule and a hydrogen atom (H) is removed from the other organic molecule. These combine to form water (H2O), a waste molecule. The two organic molecules are now unstable and bond to each other.
