The arithmetic mean (average) of 9, 29 and y is 19. What is the value of y?
A. 7
B. 19
C. 26
D. 32
E. 57
The arithmetic mean of n numbers is their sum divided by n.
So, (9 + 29 + y) / 3 = 19 or 38 + y = 19 x 3 = 57. Thus, y = 57 - 38 = 19.
