What event prompted the Ottoman Empire to enter the war?
A. A Russian attack on Austria
B. A British attack on the Dardanelles
C. A German attack on Belgium
D. France's surrender
In October of 1914, the Ottomans closed the Dardanelles to Allied shipping. This followed an incident on September 27 when the British Dardanelles squadron had seized a Turkish torpedo boat. The actual decision to close the strait seems to have been taken by German military advisors stationed in the Dardanells without reference to the Turkish government.
