What is the sum of
6.6412 g + 12.85 + 0.046 g + 3.48 g
Expressed to the correct number of significant figures?
A. 2.3 g
B. 23.0 g
C. 23.017 g
D. 23.02 g
Rule: when adding measurements, the number of decimal places in the sum (answer) is the same as the number of decimal places in the least precise measurement.
The least precise measurement was measured to hundredths of a g (12.85 and 3.38).
Therefore the sum of the numbers cannot be more precise than this.
